Vanishing Point Audio-Visual Sculpture/Installation

This was a collaborative project created for UD@Crane’s “Information Translated” exhibition in Philadelphia, PA in October, 2009. Running on a continuous loop, a car built from Lego® robotic parts carries a small camera though orange and yellow gates toward a computer monitor that is showing the camera feed. This creates a visual feedback loop as the car heads toward the monitor on a wooden track. The car’s camera feed is also being shown on another monitor sitting on a pedesal in front of the installation.

Moments before the camera/car reaches the feedback monitor, the camera feed on the viewing monitor switches to a second camera mounted on top of a bottle of styrofoam packing peanuts that are blown toward the camera by an air compressor. This gives the illusion of an explosion.

All of this contraption is controlled by an Arduino and Apple G4 computer.
