Scoot Custom Mobility Device

Testing the First Prototype

This device was designed and built for a little girl named Kahlani to assist her with mobility. Born without arms, she has difficulty ambulating. Sized to her habitas, this device allows her to push herself across the floor which contributes to her proprioceptive awareness and independence.

The current version consists of a platform fabricated from a synthetic cutting board with two layers of foam insulation as risers and castors attached to the bottom, wooden rods extending in four directions with tennis ball bumpers to prevent the user from tipping over, a 3D printed back rest and a three-point harness to secure the user into the device.

Above is video documentation of Kahlani’s first test of the scooter.

Please contact me if you would like to participate in a trial of this device or something like it. All trial devices are provided at no cost to the participant.
