This collection of video pieces explores the phenomenon of ‘AudioVision’ where image and sound are perceived simultaneously with the resulting cognitive effects are greater than the sum of the parts. Michel Chion wrote about this phenomenon in Audio-Vision, Sound On Screen: “Visual and auditory perception are of much more disparate natures than one might think. The reason we are dimly aware of this is that these two perceptions mutually influence each other in the audiovisual contract, lending each other their respective properties by contamination and projection.”
This work explores various ways of constructing audio-visual relationships (i.e. contracts) including systematic approachs where aspects of image and components of sound are related through computer programming, using a super 8 camera as a visual ‘instrument’ to capture visual rhythms within an environment, and traditional video editing or sequencing.
